Walking Sticks Cinquain Poem

Sometimes we need not take a walk in the woods for a treat from nature to inspire a poem.

In this case, all I needed to do was take out the trash. Had I not been paying attention I might have missed this creepy crawly walking stick looking right at me! Yes, those are the tips of my toes at the bottom of this picture.


I was fascinated as I watched the insect turn himself about, creeping his way to the top of the dumpster. The bug then turned toward the wall of the back of the house, crawling to the edge of the lid, then jumped on the door frame. Yes, I jumped right along with him!


The efforts of this walking stick insect deemed him worthy of much more than my own effort aimed toward penning a Cinquain poem just for him. Quite an inspirational gift from nature these walking sticks insects are!

Creeping, crawling, walking
Foul-smelling camouflage artists
Stick Bugs

I was fascinated by these creepy crawly walking stick bugs as a child and find myself even more so now as an elder adult. Oddly, I seem to be more appreciative of their presence now than ever before.

Sunny Side Up

I awoke to the beauty of a sunny day, glanced at the still sleeping hound at the foot of my bed, and somehow just knew ours was to be a sunny-side-up kind of day, come what may.

I immediately began to make it so. I fried up a pair of eggs for myself, adding an extra for my dog Valentino, of course. As I topped his breakfast bowl with warm egg yolk drizzling into his kibble, Valentino tap danced on the kitchen tile floor. When I knew he could wait no more, I sounded the Good boy, go! command.

While eating my pair of sunny-side up eggs on pita bread toast, the telephone rang. I smiled at the picture of an old friend in Ohio popping onto the cell phone screen. Ah! It really is the start of a grand day!

Valentino soon danced in front of me, begging for his morning walk. "No more time to talk," said I to my friend. "I need to walk my dog."

Then I grabbed my dog's harness and leash and out into the sunshine we went. We walked and jogged the neighborhood loop, took care of dog business, then walked the loop again.

We both drank our fill of cool water along our way and again upon our return home nearly an hour later. Temperatures were rising. It was going to be another hot and humid day under the Florida sunshine.

Sunshine Burst Quotable Quote

While a picture perfect sunrise enlivens the spirit one need not witness the rising of the sun in order to reap its spiritual rewards.

I can say that with all honesty as I do not actually witness many sunrises, even though sunshine lives deep within my very being.

I am NOT a morning person! Thus, I rely on past experiences, the sunrise views others may share, and my own imaginative mind.

Then, there are also words that will burst into being written that will bring a picture of pure sweet sunshine bursting into my day, making sure I feel alive. Sometimes they are the words of another, oftentimes they are my own.

In the case of this sunshine burst — both picture and words are mine, brought together in a visual quote. In this case the words are arrayed in the poetry form, Cinquain.

The photo was taken while sharing a Christmas Eve sunrise (2013) with my dog Tidbit. We rose early to catch it and neither she nor I were disappointed with our heavenly view.

Rainy Day Walk In Cinquain

Ah! Yes, my dog and I finally got some rain to beat the heat of our walks here in the Florida Sunshine State!

Picture a month of temperatures in the mid-eighties to low-nineties with high humidity (yet no rain!) You then understand why my dog Valentino and I were as ready as can be to walk the day away in the rain.
