Plant It and They Will Come

If You Plant It, They Will Come
However big or small your field of dreams, it must first be planted before it may grow to fruition. Plant it and they will come true.

The same is true with friendship. To have a friend we must first become one, then nurture the bond over time and circumstance to watch it grow.

This quotable quote "from seed of the sun friendship will come" is planted and penned in epigram poetry form by Ruth Cox.

We are planting our sunflower and butterfly friendship quote creation in the Quotography Link Up today and hope to find you planted there too!

Ruth I Am

There came a time in my life when I began to appreciate my given name — Ruth. Yet, still, I must wonder about the gift of such a namesake.

In the beginning was a baby girl — ruthful — having a full life stretched out before her. In the end is an old woman — ruthless — having become less than she once was.

Then and Now - Ruth I Am

I am Ruth - Amazon Books
Through the passages of a life of strife, just like the biblical Ruth from whence my name came, there have been blessings for my ruth-full-ness of which I am grateful. Nonetheless, there are those times when my emotions get the better of me and I pen a poem from the tenderheartedness of Ruth.

Ruth I am
Feeling ruthful.

Then I age
Growing fruitless
With no more
Living youthful
Still I do
Wander rootless
As of now
Speaking truthful

Ruth I am
Feeling ruthless.

RUTHFUL and RUTHLESS are my chosen words for the ABC Challenge of Emotions.

This week we are writing about our emotions beginning with the letter "R" and hope that you will share your feelings with us by linking up with an article of your own.

Feeling Forgiven Not Forgotten

Forgive & Forget
A forgiving spirit toward others as well as ourselves is essential for our personal well-being.

It is often said that we can forgive but not forget. In truth, a forgiving feeling comes into being only after forgetting.

Forgetting

Another truth of forgive and forget is that we must remember it is the action we felt was taken against us which we need forgive and forget — not the person. This reasoning is clear to me each time I read the poem Night Mail by W. H. Auden.

You can listen to the verse written for the documentary film. (Fast forward to 19:20 or so for "Night Mail" by Auden)

The last line of Auden's verse says it all for me...

For who can bear to feel himself forgotten?

Determined Spirit

One need only look to nature for that which inspires one to stay determined to stand with a robust spirit along the road map of life.

I waited patiently while I watched the vibrant red flowers come to life on a Florida Bottlebrush tree. (And I am not a patient person!) Each day a little more red would rise on the flower's journey to reach full bloom of its color.

I learned from the Bottlebrush flower that even though there are times when I may feel lost and without direction if I but stay the course I shall reach my destination with my sunshine spirit intact.

Directionless feeling
Devalued
Darest not to despair.

Dedicated notion
Devoted
Driven never dauntless.

Delirious spirit
Determined
Drawn toward debonair.

Family of Kith and Kin

While we all come from a family of origin many of us have grown to love and be loved by chosen ones; rather, family by choice.

Family-By-Choice
I am one of those whose family is born of kith and of kin. I have chosen to weave persons not related by blood with members of my blood relations to form the close-knit tapestry of which I deem family.

Time and circumstance can distance us physically or emotionally from our kinfolk. It is then that we have the right and the responsibility to choose to create our own families.

The ties that bind us closely together as a family are not necessarily found in bloodline. Sometimes we are more closely connected to souls to whom we are unrelated.

I believe family members are bound together by thoughts, feelings, and actions which reflect their compassionate caring of their relationships of one with the other. I also believe family to be ever-changing, as are its members — each to be loved forevermore.

Tropical Treasure Palm Poems

Yesterday I clipped a portion of this up close and personal photo and posted it as a picture poem on the TSU social site with the promise of revealing the answer to my first guessing game today.

Florida palm trees bearing fruit are plentiful and I am fortunate to have discovered that one of my neighbor's palms produced a bounty of colorful fruit beneath their creamy and coral blooms. But of course, I placed this tropical treasure upon a postcard with a Haiku poem for you to share with your postal pals.

Now you must excuse me, as I have a date with a pressure canner and some jelly jars!

Ruth Cox Poetry and Prose Amuser

View on Zazzle
As I begin anew with a Ruth Cox Poetry and Prose blog, I must thank all who have encouraged and supported me in my growth as a Poet and Writer over the years.

A special thank you to my aMUSEr—Len Maxwell—for stretching me as a writer, instilling in me the belief that I am an Author.

This, then, is my blog dedication to Len, inspired by and first published in response to, his writing prompt on Gather on March 10th, 2010: Write something (prose, poetry, fiction, essay, whatever) about vampires.

The Poetess is Vamp

"Psst!"

Salivary spittle spews forth from his lips like molten rock from a volcano covering the sun-bespeckled ink upon her writing pad. Juices hungrily flow from his mind to hers.

Her creativity appears less restrictive under his influence. She writes of things with wings; words take flight in fanciful affairs far from everyday life. Darkness no longer looms, it has become a welcome place where she may fly about in splatterings of flirtatious fiction.

He, now spellbound by this spirited sight, feasts upon the fruits of artistic expression he feels responsible for—precisely the feeling she pens for him.

She, allows the Vampire to think his bloodsucking power is capable of taking and giving life. She, the Poetess, shall soon suck the darkness from his veins and he shall hunger only for the light of the Vamp... Forevermore.

The rays of the Sun
summon the Vampire:
to be; meld as one;
lifeblood of Desire.
The light of dark ink
revels in diction:
Poet; catch her wink;
Writer of Fiction.
The toast of the Vamp
wassails to suffuse:
imbued; cul-de-lampe;
mulled wine for the Muse.

Writer or Poet? Which ornament best suits you?
